EverQuest Next Landmark Alpha Launches Today!

EverQuest Next Landmark Alpha Launches Today!

Hey, Trailblazers and Explorers! Are you ready for the EverQuest Next Landmark alpha? (You say, "Aye, wise druid!") I can't heeeeeaaaaar you. ("Aye, wise druid!") Well, pull on your walking boots and grab your pick-axe, my adventurous friends, because we're goin' in. Not only that, but we're going in today.

From SOE's press release:

This morning, at a community event hosted at its San Diego campus, Sony Online Entertainment announced Alpha for the highly-anticipated EverQuest Next Landmark will begin this evening. As players and developers come together to celebrate major milestones across the entire EverQuest game franchise, teams are hard at work completing the final tasks in the hours before Alpha is officially underway.

In EverQuest Next Landmark, players are invited into a vast online world to explore unique continents, to use powerful building tools to bring their dreams to life, and to adventure with close friends and allies into undiscovered territory.

“Later today, we will begin the Alpha for EverQuest Next Landmark and open up the game to our most committed and passionate players,” said Dave Georgeson, Director of Development for the EverQuest franchise. “This is the earliest point in the development process that we’ve ever let players into a game. We are empowering these players to do much more than test the game for bugs. For the first time, our players can join alongside us as part of the development team. They will have a significant voice in how the final game takes shape.”

In EverQuest Next Landmark’s Alpha phase only the most dedicated players, those who have purchased a Founder’s Pack at the Explorer or Trailblazer level, will be granted access to the game. The comments, suggestions, and feedback of this dedicated group will have a significant influence on all elements of the game’s development, from system design and building progression to character abilities and itemization.

Nearly fifteen years ago EverQuest established a new paradigm in the online gaming genre. Today, the Alpha launch of EverQuest Next Landmark represents a fresh beginning and the start of grand new adventures.

Remember, to gain early access to alpha, you will need to have purchased a Founder's Pack of the appropriate level. We'll see you in Landmark later today. Time to dig in!

  • SOE President John Smedley recently posted to Twitter that emails will go out to Trailblazers and Explorers later today. (Emphasis on "later.") He added that there was no specific time, "so don't ask." Guess it's time to start endlessly refreshing your inbox, folks! While you're waiting, check out our hands-on preview.

UPDATE 2: Further comments from Smed...

  • We will not announce when the emails are going out other then that they are going out later today

  • Why do it that way? A few reasons. First, we want to watch the load and how the servers respond

  • And I want to be upfront and say that we're still working out a few last minute server config issues that cropped up, but nothing too big.

  • And if you purchased one of our founders packs and your email comes later than your friends.. please don't worry about it. you'll get yours

  • Anyone that wants into the Alpha and hasn't purchased it yet. Now's the time!

  • We will offer a full refund to anyone not satisfied with the Alpha.

UPDATE 3: Further comments from Smed...

  • Here's a hint. Stay tuned in the next 5 hours or so... (published 2:38 PM - 31 Jan 2014)
